Throughout the year we engage with a range of schools to highlight the opportunities associated with a career in engineering and the benefits of the apprenticeship route.

Recently we had the pleasure of hosting a visit from students at WMG Academy Coventry, an academy for students aged 14-19 with an interest in science, technology, engineering and maths.

Paula Carmichael, Business Engagement & Student Destinations Manager at WMG tells us: “Our students got a real understanding of how the apprentice scheme worked and learnt how to make their applications stand out. The students were also given a task to assemble an air motor and I was very proud that it was the girls who beat the rest and finished theirs first. Girl power in action! We all left very excited about the future opportunities with MGTS.”

Nicola Gutteridge, MGTS Apprenticeship Recruitment Co-ordinator, comments: “The students asked some great questions throughout the session and their passion for engineering was obvious. I’m delighted that we have already received applications from a few WMG students for our 2023 intake following their visit to MGTS.”

Matthew Berry who facilitated the practical challenge said: “Working in pairs the students were enthusiastic and achieved great results.”

MGTS Customer Engagement Manager, Adrian Simkiss comments: “The visit was a very positive experience from our perspective as the students were highly engaged and behaved impeccably. We continue to grow our relationship with WMG which can only be a benefit to all involved.”

We also received some lovely feedback from the students which included:

“I really enjoyed seeing all of the different areas we’d be trained up in, it feels really supportive and not as scary as going straight into a company.”

“After the tour I went home and applied straight away. MGTS are going to give me the skills to become a qualified engineer with the backing of local companies which is exactly what I want to be doing.”
