We are looking to recruit a Safeguarding & Wellbeing Officer to ensure we provide a high level of support to our apprentices across our sites in Coventry and Redditch. The apprenticeship journey that our apprentices undertake necessitates compliance with our safeguarding policies and procedures, meeting the welfare needs of our apprentices but also implementing a personal development curriculum to ensure every apprentice has the opportunity to develop and grow personally. The following skills and knowledge would be advantageous:
- Experience and knowledge of the safeguarding requirements in an Education setting
- An understanding of the requirements of Prevent, British Values and Equality & Diversity in an Education setting
- Experience in developing and delivering Personal Development lessons to learners, around suitable topics such as online gambling, dangers of social media etc.
- Knowledge/Awareness of first aid (including mental health)
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Undertake the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) by supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in the co-ordination of referrals, arranging action and follow up and reviewing services, intervention and support for MGTS apprentices
- Support the DSL in the implementation of safeguarding and child protection policies and provide support and training to staff, apprentices and apprenticeship employers
- Assist in co-ordinating the safeguarding team of Designated Safeguarding Officers and manage the monthly team meetings
- Act as a ‘first responder’ when an apprentice needs support
- Keep accurate safeguarding records and monitor student progress on the learner profile system
- Assist in co-ordinating the implementation of the Personal Skills Development Award at MGTS
- Implement and support the apprentice learner wellbeing committee – providing a learner-led approach to apprentice wellbeing
- Understand and support MGTS with regard to the Prevent Duty, providing advice and support to staff and training to apprentices
- Deliver weekly Personal Development sessions to apprentices across both our Coventry and Redditch sites, ensuring content is shaped by the needs of the apprentices and informed by current local safeguarding and Prevent risks
- Liaise with the the delivery teams at MGTS in regards to apprentice learner support, identifying where support is required and working collaboratively to find solutions
- Liaise and share information with key colleagues to support the apprentice to attend MGTS and overcome barriers to learning
Salary and Benefits:
A competitive salary dependent upon experience, is offered to the successful candidate, together with 25 days annual holiday, plus 8 statutory days, pension and private medical insurance.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday – 36 hours
