Working with colleagues to ensure overall performance of the production line/area whilst adhering to all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements.  This is achieved through application of engineering skill and competency through a variety of Reactive, Planned and Improvement based activities. 

The apprenticeship covers a four-year period, with the first year delivered at Midland Group Training Services in Coventry (36 hours per week) learning core practical and theoretical elements of the role. Upon completion of the first year, apprentices will spend years 2-4 working at our Burton brewery.

Skills you will develop will include:   

  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Conducting business improvement activities
  • Producing components using had fitting techniques
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
  • Maintaining air and fluid power systems
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems
  • Wiring and testing electrical equipment and systems
  • Wiring and testing programmable controller-based systems

For the first year, apprentices will be working in a training environment at MGTS. Individuals will be being paid to learn and are expected to: 

  • Be punctual and arrive on time for their classes
  • Communicate to MGTS and CMBC if they are unable to make lessons or classes on time, or report an absence
  • Complete all theoretical and practical assignments on time

For subsequent years, apprentices will be working in a busy, sometimes noisy workplace at CMBC. The role will involve standing during the day, including working closely with engineering mentors and colleagues in the operational environment.Individuals are expected to:

  • Be punctual and arrive on time at their workplace
  • Often work with non-engineering brewery colleagues  
  • Complete all learning journal requirements regularly
  • Regularly meet with MGTS learning advisors and CMBC mentors
  • Look after the safety of themselves, and others, at all times

Entry Requirements

We are seeking applications from candidates who have or are predicted to gain 5 x GCSEs (or equivalent). Grades must be A*-C / 9-5 for Maths and A*-C / 9-4 for English, Science and two other subjects.

Training to be Provided

  •  Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  •  BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge 
  •  Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)

Things to Consider

Apprentices will work as follows:

Year 1: Days at MGTS. 36 Hours per week.

Years 2-4: Days at CMBC (Overtime only if over 18).

The first year training will be at MGTS in Coventry, CMBC will support with transport cost throughout the first year.

Future prospects

On successful completion of the four-year programme, individuals will be awarded the Apprenticeship Standard for an Engineering Technician (Level 3) and may be potentially offered the opportunity to go onto an HNC. Completion of an Individual assessment will be undertaken to determine whether a full time position will be offered.
