Recession has not Stopped Apprentices Being Snapped Up
Frances Lee, MGTS Employer Engagement Adviser, is delighted that a range of companies are offering employment opportunities to MGTS students completing the Apprenticeship programme. Frances was particularly pleased that over twenty Apprentices have been given the opportunity to develop their position on to advanced levels with employers from the aerospace, facilities management, motorcycle manufacture and engineering sectors.
Steve Palmer, MGTS Technical Centre Manager, explained that the MGTS Apprentice programme has been successful for several years. The programme offers budding Apprentices the opportunity to link with employers throughout the academic year. Steve feels it is important that MGTS provide a service where employers can engage with Apprentices when the need arises rather than being forced to comply with academic calendars and programmes.
Frances believes that a critical success factor is the added value training MGTS give Apprentices, which is above and beyond the qualification standards. She added that employers benefit from Apprentices being given training to match employers’ requirements. This is particularly important in preparing the Apprentice for full time employment.
Lee Weatherly, MGTS CEO, explained that the Apprentice programme is an important part of the service MGTS provide to our members. He suggested that any employer who would wish to recruit an Apprentice should contact:
