Carlsberg Partnership Leads to a Master Maintenance Programme
CARLSBERG PARTNERSHIP LEADS TO
MASTER MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME
A team of MGTS trainers specialising in maintenance technician upskilling successfully delivered an upskilling programme for 40 engineers at the Carlsberg Leeds operation. Bob Dunn, MGTS Commercial Manager, explained that Carlsberg are a demanding customer who have stretched MGTS and enabled the delivery team to add to the range of MGTS upskilling products. Bob said that Carlsberg had invested a significant amount of time to develop a learning and development plan for their maintenance teams. This is in line with Carlsberg’s vision to continually develop and upskill employees to provide them with the knowledge and competence to continually drive performance improvement. In particular, Carlsberg Leeds has developed a model for maintenance learning and development based on a vision to have teams who can both operate and maintain the plant and processes to world class standards of compliance, quality, cost and service.
In supporting their vision, Carlsberg selected MGTS as their chosen partner making reference to MGTS working with other blue-chip companies such as Britvic, Walkers, Coors, Kraft and Tetrapak.
MGTS delivered a multi-staged programme starting with initial evaluation of technician competence through a series of skill and knowledge assessments. This activity was supplemented with a comprehensive range of training programmes to meet Carlsberg’s exacting standards.
Steve Palmer, MGTS Technical Centre Manager, said that this has been an important partnership for MGTS as we have been able to extend our capability to deliver what blue-chip companies demand from their maintenance teams. He went on to explain that MGTS has now developed a comprehensive set of courses which are combined in a master technician programme. Lee Weatherly, MGTS CEO, is very enthusiastic about MGTS’ experience of working with Carlsberg. He said that as a consequence MGTS has invested in a range of equipment to be able to offer the “Carlsberg Experience” to other companies wishing to develop their maintenance technicians to world class standards. Lee said he would leave the last word with Fran Ball of Carlsberg who said:
“Carlsberg UK are committed to a number of initiatives [as part of the ‘We Deliver More’ employee programme] that continue to develop the skills of all our employees across the business. Carlsberg UK [Leeds] were looking to evaluate the skills and competence of their engineering technicians in order to put together a learning and development programme customised to individuals.
We chose to work with MGTS due to their vast experience of undertaking these skills evaluations in a range of industries include food and beverage.
The team from MGTS made the engineers feel comfortable with the process and operated in a very professional manner ensuring that we got a true reflection of their skills and areas for development.
As a result we now have a much clearer understanding of where our current skills levels are and more importantly where we need to focus our learning and development activity. This will deliver on the company’s objective of more effective and efficient processes”.
