Apprentice Recruitment Success for the Third Year

APPRENTICE RECRUITMENT SUCCESS FOR THE THIRD YEAR

Steve Palmer, MGTS Technical Centre Manager, reported that 100% of MGTS sponsored apprentices have successfully completed their apprenticeship framework. He added that 25 of the apprentices have been successfully converted to become advanced apprentices.

Frances Lee, MGTS Sales Adviser, said that it had been a major challenge in the current business climate to link over 30 apprentices to industry with their eventual conversion to advanced apprenticeship being an ongoing objective. Frances added that there are clear signs of stability and improvement in the engineering SME market. Clearly both employers and apprentices are benefiting from the fragile upturn. Many SMEs have made a commitment to recruiting MGTS sponsored apprentices with the Coventry and Warwickshire Aerospace Forum [CWAF] providing a channel to access aerospace suppliers.

Lee Weatherly stated that a number of MGTS apprentices are employed within the CWAF network. This has enabled MGTS to provide a collaborative apprentice service encouraging the movement of apprentices between a number of companies sharing skills and experience.

Lee and Frances are presenting an update to the CWAF group on 11 November 2010 at the International Digital Laboratory, Warwick University, which includes plans to organise inter-company apprentice secondments.
