INTRODUCTION

The need for improving fault finding

1.Current approach test exercise

  • Timed fault find in small groups on practical application

2.Fault finding approaches

  • Six step approach
    • a.Half split technique
    • b.Input / Output  technique
    • c.Emergent problem analysis
  • Exercises in the use of these approaches – theory based example
  • Assessment of application – theory based example

3.Fault finding tools and techniques

  • Understanding and application of 5 “Why’s” Root Cause analysis.
  • Understanding and application of Cause and Effects analysis. Use of the 5 senses; see, hear, touch, smell, taste
  • Exercises in use of the tools – ‘Car fault’ diagnostic and ‘Conveyor stopped’ analysis
  • Assessment of use of tools - Mechanical or Electrical faults.

4.Demonstration of Electrical/ Electro Pneumatic fault find or Mechanical / Pneumatic fault find; MGTS or customer supplied rigs

5.Practice Electrical / Electro Pneumatic exercise or Mechanical / Pneumatic fault find; MGTS or customer supplied rigs

6.Individual process fault find assessment, electrical or mechanical on MGTS skills assessment rigs

7.Developing equipment and process diagnostic aids

  • Recognition of typical diagnostic aids for reference in fault finding to include Standard Ops sheets, Faults Analysis charts and templates, Algorithms, Equipment manuals
